Millfield in Fine Form at London Summer Meet
This challenging meet took place at the London Aquatics Centre, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It was a fast meet with several large teams present.
Competing outside of the South West in such a fantastic pool allowed our swimmers an opportunity to advance their race day processes, fine tune particular race day strategies and offered an exciting end of season competition.
32 swimmers ranging in age and ability took part in the two day competition. Our younger boys, intermediate girls predominantly racing secondary events and targeted seniors, were on fire from the off. The overall team enjoyed an extremely successful weekend.
For many, the meet was used as ‘swim through’, following several weeks of sustained training effort. The fact that Millfield clocked several swims within 3% of lifetime bests and many personal bests was particularly encouraging.
Despite participating in all 6 sessions our swimmers remained disciplined, managed to relax and produced some of their best performances within the last hour of racing. The girls 200 freestyle a particular highlight for the coaching team that was present.
Lead Coach Matt Puddy commented:
‘’It was a pleasure to take such a large team away for the weekend. Their behaviour and performances were a testament to the great work that they and their coaches are doing back in training on a daily basis. Together, the team exceeded all expectations for the meet. Sufficient time was devoted to the skills which produce immediate results or will ensure performance progression moving forwards into the summer and beyond. My thanks go out to Coach Gouldby and Coach Clarke, without their support the trip would not have been possible.’’
