Millfield Swimming News

Christmas Round Up!

Christmas sees the continuation of the swimming programme over the holiday period as swimmers prepare for major competitions both during the break and after the New Year.

As we neared the end of the term, Millfield sent a strong team to the English School Swimming Relays National finals in London. Traditionally Millfield has been strong in this event and this year proved to be no different, as the teams came away with six Golds, five Silvers and one Bronze medal.

The excitement starts on the first day of the holiday with around 40 swimmers heading to Newport for the Arena League South West Final. In what will be a tough competition, our Millfield swimmers will go in to the final with plenty of optimism having won the previous two qualification rounds. On that same weekend, four swimmers will be heading up to Edinburgh to compete at the Scottish National Short Course Championships. The event is widely recognised as the premier short course meet in the UK, attracting a wealth of swimming talent from across Europe.

A week later twenty swimmers will be heading up to Sheffield for the Swim England Winter Meet. The National Winter Championships is the biggest English level 1 swimming meet of the winter months, with Britain’s top senior swimmers often involved. The National Winter Champs offers a Christmas feast of fast swimming with the ASA’s historic and prestigious swimming trophies handed out to event winners.

In the world of International swimming; Jakob Goodman and Sophia Wilson were selected to represent GB at the Ontario Junior International Meet in December. Coach Mullins was also selected to the team and will be heading out with the group in cold mid-winter!

With training on, surrounding the big competitions and bigger festive celebrations, the final day of the holiday sees Millfield host the ‘A Day with James Guy’ camp. Ninety-Six County standard swimmers from around the country will be attendance, in what will be an electrifying day and a great opportunity for development.

From the swimming department, we hope that you have a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year!
