Millfield swimmer commits to University of Virginia Millfield Upper Sixth swimmer Sophia has committed to attend the University of Virginia in the US next year. Eighteen-year-old Sophia joined Millfield in Year 10 and has been training at the school for three years.

Team Bath AS and Millfield Announce Open Meet Partnership

Team Bath AS and Millfield Announce Open Meet Partnership Millfield will begin a new partnership with Team Bath AS this season that will see the teams running joint Open Meets for the foreseeable future. Together the two teams will be hosting a series of Open Meets providing a focused programme that gives competition opportunities for swimmers at key times of the year and within essential qualification windows. Millfield Director of Swimming, Euan Dale, says, “It’s fantastic to be working so closely with Team Bath AS, and to be able to work as a team to bring so many talented swimmers together to compete.” Team Bath AS Chairman, Nick Bown said: “We are delighted to be joining forces with Millfield and look forward to providing a program of meets that gives our swimmers and those from Clubs across the Region and further afield, the best competition opportunities possible.” For the 2019/2020 Season, the Team Bath AS and Millfield Open Meets are planned as follows:  October 18-20 2019 – Millfield & Team Bath AS TYR Super Series Level 2, Millfield Pool.

Millfield swimmer makes history as first female selected for World Junior Championships

Millfield swimmer makes history as first female selected for World Junior Championships Millfield Upper Sixth pupil Rachel Anderson has made history as the first female swimmer from the school to be selected to compete for Team GB at the FINA World Junior Championships in Budapest this August. The 17-year-old day pupil from Winscombe in Somerset will be following in the footsteps of successful Olympic and Commonwealth Games medallists and former Millfield pupils James Guy, Cameron Kurle and Brodie Williams. Rachel has been swimming since she was seven and joined Millfield in Year 9; she has qualified for Great Britain twice before, and will compete with the 10-strong Great Britain squad from the 20th-26th August at the Duna Arena venue. The school also has another pupil competing at the competition: Upper Sixth pupil Danilo Rosafio will also be representing Kenya.

Millfield swimming coaches raise money for local hydro pool

Millfield swimming coaches raise money for local hydro pool Millfield swimming coaches James Clarke and Daniel Waddingham have raised £620 for the Friends of Avalon Hydrotherapy pool appeal by participating in the Ironman Vichy in France in August. The two coaches trained for the race over 6 months; an Ironman consists of a 2.4mile swim, 112mile bike ride and 26.2mile run. The Friends of Avalon Hydrotherapy pool appeal smashed their target of raising £1.1 million to build the facility earlier this year, but are now fundraising for the £115,000 worth of equipment needed to fit it out. The pool will be based at Avalon School in Street and will benefit disabled young people, who currently have to travel 25 miles to Bridgwater to use a similar specialised facility. James says, “We chose to raise money for Friends of Avalon as we know someone whose child will benefit from the use of a hydrotherapy pool in the local area.

Athletes honoured at 2019 Millfield Sports Awards Millfield celebrated another fantastic year of sporting achievement at the 2019 Sports Awards held on 18th May. Presented by Dr Scott Drawer, Director of Sport, and Mr Gavin Catto, Hockey coach & Mathematics teacher, the ceremony took on a new format including 6 Sports Awards and recognised not only individual and team success, but attitude and commitment on the sporting field. The event also showcased the annual reviews of 9 Millfield Sports, which were jointly presented by a number of senior pupils (sports captains) assisting their Head of Sport.

Millfield & Street TYR Super Series Community Coinciding with the opening of the National Qualification Window, the Millfield and Street Super Series had proven popular with the swimming community, with the Meet being oversubscribed.

ESSA Inter-Divisional Championships

ESSA Swimming Inter-Divisional Championships 2019 highlights: This year saw seven Millfield pupils and one staff member take part in the 69th edition of the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) Inter-Divisional Championships.

National Arena League Cup Final

National Arena League Cup Final Millfield Swimming finished as Runners Up in the National Arena League Cup Final on Sunday 3rd March after the tightest of battles.   The National Arena Swimming League has 350+ teams participating in 6 Regions around the Country. The Somerset based school finished 4th out of 60 teams in the South West of England and Wales to qualify for the Cup Final in 7th place.  The team then performed with distinction in Cardiff, winning an impressive 11 races, finishing just 7 points behind eventual winners Plymouth Leander.  Full points on the day were bagged by Brodie Williams (200IM/100BC), Santos Villalon (100FLY), Tatiana Tostevin (100BC), Will Ellington (100BRS), Solomon Williams (100FLY), Richard Towers (100BRS) and the boys 12,14,16U Relays. Brodie Williams and Will Ellington also secured ‘Best in Age’ Awards for their efforts.

Somerset Counties

Somerset County Championships 2019 26th/27th January, 2nd/3rd February & 9/10 February at Millfield School The swimming community of Millfield School came together, to embrace the opportunity which was being given to them by Somerset ASA, to reap the rewards (by way of posting new best times) of their recent weeks of diligent, focused training.

Flanders Cup
